I’ve been on diets most of my life, like a lot of people. I was on the Stillman diet, a precursor to Atkins; Atkins, back when his book first came out; low calorie; low fat; vegan and vegetarian. The vegan diet was the only one that worked, and that didn’t succeed completely. And once I stopped eating like that, the weight came back.
I’ve done a lot of reading and research, about diets, carbohydrates, essential oils, different types of fats and studies of the effectiveness of different diets. I’ve found a good general guide, with links and advice on how to lose weight. It’s the Diet Channel website, and this particular program was designed by a registered dietician.
A lot of the recommendations follow the USDA recommendations for servings of grains, fruits, vegetables and so on. The problem with some of these is though, that it says things like, “Limit consumption of saturated fats” and “Limit consumption of sweets, baked goods, processed foods, and processed flours.” One look at the people at any mall in America, and you can see that we don’t have the self-control to limit consumption of just about any food.
Most people won’t do what is truly needed to get healthy. Notice I didn’t say diet, or lose weight. Losing body fat will come as a natural by-products of your body cleansing itself. But it’s practically a sin in today’s world to say, don’t eat this or that. We may try, then go back to it in a short time. Whether it’s sweet rolls, or fried chicken, or candy, we don’t want to deprive ourselves. So we eat things that have no nutrient value and that actually contain things that harm our bodies, damaging them in the long term.
If you don’t care, or you don’t want to have to give up those things I just mentioned, then you are in the wrong place. If you are interested in ways to improve your health, to have real health, not a drug-supported simulacrum, then this is the place for you.
There are things you can do that are free, or almost free, that will improve your health. You can read labels in the supermarket, and avoid buying those things made with nerve toxins (aspartame, in diet drinks), highly carcinogenic chemicals (sodium nitrite in most processed meats), and foods made with an ingredient linked to heart disease and increased cholesterol (partially hydrogenated oils), just as a start.
Stay tuned, I’ll be posting more as time passes. Feel free to comment, registration is required though.
