This interesting article reports on studies done about eating and portion size.
In one, kids were given food they liked, in different portions. What worked best was to give them a small portion and then let them get more from a serving dish. This works to curb overeating, even in smaller children.
The other study offered standard portions to adults. The following study period, they were given larger portions. They ate more, even though they reported feeling full more often.
Restaurant portions are getting out of control. When I do go out to eat, I usually cut the entree in half and push half the side dish on the side. I eat half and take half home. Stretches your money and spares your waistline.
