A PhD in nutrition, the woman with the wonderful name of Nestle, gave a speech at a conference about sustainable agriculture. This article summarizes what she said and has an additional number of questions.
Basically, she says that breakfast cereals aimed at kids are basically sugar. They have chocolate and marshmallows and cookies. They are not the nutrient dense foods children need to learn and grow up healthy.
She has also tried to get General Mills and other cereal producers to stop advertising so heavily to children. Her point is that they don’t really care if they are healthy, they just want the sales.
Not surprising, I guess. That’s why we need to make informed decisions when we shop and in what we feed our children.
