Disclaimers for Ares Ascendant
Ares Ascendant is a war novel. It accurately portrays war's violence and its aftermath both physically and psychologically, and implies much more that it does not depict directly. Some scenes may be disturbing, since they are graphically bloody and squalid. It is my belief that Xena's character was formed by exposure to war at a young age and that this exposure's effects are deep and wide. I show the price war extracts on Xena and the other characters. It is also my view is that Xena is a woman of experience with men and she has an important relationship with a man in this book. However, I also give subtext plenty of scope, I hope in the same manner as the show.
